Stalheim is internationally recognized as an accordion soloist and since his breakthrough in 1984 he has performed on a numerous CDs and with several international orchestras. He has received several grants, including a State grant for the establishing of emerging artists and two year grant as a composer. Stalheim has been chairman of the Composer Group in Ny Musikk, and is actively engaged in concert with contemporary music. He was in 1995-2004 producer for Norway Management (The Concert Institute of Norway) and has also produced a number of CD’s.
He has also appeared in several stage productions both as performer, actor and composer. He has toured with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and BIT20ensemble amongst many ensembles. He played the accordion part in Georg Friedrich Haas/Jon Fosse´s opera Melancholia and participated in Grønne Glimt by Lasse Thoresen as one of the soloist in Bergen International Festival 2014.
He has performed at many festivals and concert-series; Ultima, Borealis, Avgarde, World Music Days in Stockholm and Oslo, and in Video Festival in Cannes with Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.
Stalheim has cooperated with several composers and performed works by Unsuk Chin, Steen Pade, Ib Nørholm, Ketil Hvoslef, Glenn-Erik Haugland, Arne Nordheim, Lasse Thoresen, Olav Anton Thommessen, Anders Flodin, Magnus Lindberg, Jukka Tiensuu, Terje Rypdal, Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen and Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen.
He have played together with Esa-Pekka Salonen, Mats Rondin, Alf Årdal, Frances-Marie Uitti, Ricardo Gassent, Hans Kristian Kjos-Sørensen, Ragnhild Hemsing, Walter Thompson, Etienne Rolin, Øystein Birkeland, Jesper Juhl Sørensen, Harald Eikaas, John Ehde, Frode Thorsen, Ricardo Odriozola, Einar Røttingen, David Jaxon, Bettina Smith, Kjell Seim, a.o.
